Drought Mitigation Update

BYU Grounds recently finalized a five-year project for installing smart irrigation controllers across campus. As a direct result of this project, irrigation water consumption will be reduced by 20–50%. Weather data, slope, soil type and water usage data are used to optimize the irrigation schedules. Maximum water savings has always come from the efforts of Grounds employees as they keep 60,000+ sprinklers tuned up through weekly irrigation wet checks, communicate repairs/schedule changes and daily monitor of the irrigation schedules of 3,060 systems.

Changes to Summer Term Mask Requirements

With the continuing trends of lower COVID-19 disease prevalence and increased vaccine availability, masks will not be required in classrooms during summer term. Additionally, masks will no longer be required for employees and patrons at Studio 1030 beginning June 21, the first day of summer term classes.
Masks will still be required for everyone at the BYU Student Health Center and for BYU Dining Services employees, as directed by supervisors. Masks will also be required in other areas on campus as directed and approved by the responsible vice president.

BYU will hold traditional fall semester in 2021

Brigham Young University officially announced today that fall semester 2021 will operate like a traditional fall semester due to the downward trend in COVID-19 infections and increased number of vaccinations within the campus community. As with a typical fall semester, the vast majority of courses will be offered in-person with full-capacity classrooms. Additionally, the university will be evaluating how virtual learning may have improved some elements of courses and curricula and hopes to incorporate the best of those changes as it prepares for a more traditional fall semester.
