Getting to Know: Joy Weller
Name: Joy Weller
BYU Employee Since: October 2010
My Job at BYU is… Assistant Manager Alumni Records
Currently, I am Working on… Helping alumni stay connected to BYU and one another by updating contact information and enriching the Alumni database with additional information about alumni (where they are, and what they are doing now, etc.). Also helping colleges stay connected to their alumni by providing similar information to them.
I get most excited about my work when… I find an elusive piece of information or figure out a hard problem. Also, when I successfully connect an alum with an old friend or someone they are looking for.
My most cherished memories at BYU are… Being involved in Homecoming and Hike and Light the Y. My first week working at BYU (and in Provo) was Homecoming week. I didn’t really know anyone yet. I joined the Hike and Light the Y and have made it a yearly tradition to join whenever possible. My kids have also joined in the tradition as they have come along (either hiking themselves or being carried.)
My involvement with United Way… This year I am the chair for Women United.
United Way has made an impact on me because… I have seen the difference that the programs make in people’s lives. I know the money donated goes to programs that matter. My kids have been the beneficiaries of the early intervention programs.
A United Way Agency that is close to my heart is… Women United and the Early Intervention programs
On Saturday Mornings you will find me… Sleeping in if possible, making breakfast or brunch for my family (this is the one day each week that I actually cook something hot for breakfast—usually pancakes or a hot cereal, cleaning and spending time with my family.
One item on my bucket list is… Traveling to Ireland to see where my ancestors came from and possibly do some family history research while there.
