Minimum Performance Expectations
Accountability—Accepts responsibility for individual behavior/contribution and team outcomes. Arrives on time dressed and clocked in when shift starts or at assigned time for University Relations events. If you will not make it on time due to unforeseen circumstances, this must be communicated with supervisor. Carries out commitments in a timely, effective manner.
Focus—Maintains focus on work-related assignments while clocked in. Avoids excessive time gathering and socializing with other student employees. During days with fewer tours, employee is expected to work on assigned tasks or consult with supervisor. Also, during slower times and if all tasks have been completed, supervisor may authorize time for homework. If assigned to work as receptionist, remain at desk ready to greet guests and answer office phone during entire shift.
Professionalism—Presents a professional image, exercises maturity and tact, and applies proper business ethics. Maintains performance levels and demonstrates maturity while under pressure. Effectively and accurately expresses self (verbal, non-verbal, or written) in individual and group situations. Cell phones should remain on and with employee during shift so everyone can be reached for calls and texts. Only be present in office during assigned shift. Dress and Grooming: Exercises highest moral and ethical standards in conduct, dress, and grooming. Men are expected to wear work shirt, dress pants, belt, dark colored dress shoes, socks, and clean-cut hair. Women are expected to wear work shirt, dark colored closed toed & heel shoes, and dark dress pants. Questions regarding dress and appearance should be communicated with supervisor. Cleanliness: Cubicles, front desk, and clothes closet should remain clean and without clutter. All personal items should be stowed in upper bins or in drawers. Only receptionist is permitted to eat at front desk.
Time Off—Time off requests will be managed on a first come, first served basis and must be approved by supervisor. Time off limit is: 5 days per semester, Winter, Spring/Summer, Fall. If you are sick or have an emergency, this needs to be communicated with supervisor and continual updates on your status are expected. Red letter days: Commencement, Campus Showcase, University Conference General Session and Breakfast, Appreciation Breakfast, and others.
Decision-Making—Develops imaginative and innovative approaches/solutions. Ability to make decisions that are in the best interest of the University with consideration for campus visitors.
Flexibility—Adapts willingly to changes in procedure, process, technology, responsibility, or assignment. Maintains an attitude of flexibility and timeliness in interacting with supervisor, other office employees, and guests.
Job Knowledge—Demonstrates the skills needed to perform the essential job functions including knowledge of tour scripts, cart cleanliness standards, receptionist responsibilities, hosting skills, etc. Tour guides should be downstairs in lobby 10 minutes before tour starts to greet guests. Receptionist should answer the phone with “University Relations, this is ______”.
Project Management/Leadership—Takes ownership of assigned projects and leads and teaches other student employees. Proactively reports weekly progress, support/resource needs, etc. with supervisor.
Teamwork/Cooperation—Exhibits cooperative, participative behavior in working towards common goals and outcomes.
Confidentiality—Maintain confidentiality. Expected to keep private information about office, guests, VIPs, etc.
I have read, reviewed with my supervisor, and understand that to maintain consistent and efficient functionality of the office, student workers and other office personnel are expected to meet the minimum performance expectations outlined above to qualify for continued employment. In the event that these standards are not met, I understand that management maintains sole discretion to use remedies such as verbal warning, written warning, probation, and termination with or without notice.
